Wing Commander David Holder

David joined the Air Force and started at the Australian Defence Force Academy in January 1988.

He graduated from navigator training in 1994 and subsequently completed five flying postings. Four of those were on C-130s, flying C-130E and C-130H aircraft at 36 and 37SQNs; and flying C-130K aircraft during a short-term exchange with the Royal Air Force. During his final C-130 posting, David held two Flight Commander roles before becoming XO 37SQN.

David’s other flying posting was at the School of Air Navigation, as an instructor flying B200 Super Kingairs. He has served on multiple operations including as the C130 Detachment Commander on Operation Slipper/Catalyst.

David’s ground postings have included Australian Command and Staff Course and staff roles in International Policy Division, the Airworthiness Coordination and Policy Agency, Air Power Development Centre (now the Air and Space Power Centre), the Air Force ERP Transition Team, and Air Force Adaptive Culture Team.

David spent over six years working outside of Air Force as a workforce manager at AusAID, contractor in Defence, and consultant at four different consulting firms. During that time he continued Reserve service as a RAAF Coach.

David is currently employed in a full-time capacity as Deputy Director Ground Operations in Cadets Branch – Air Force in Brindabella Business Park, ACT.

He is a keen fly fisherman and agricultural salsa dancer.
